Empowering the Future: Clippers Outreach Event Inspires Inglewood Students

On Monday, February 10, the Clippers Outreach Event brought together 60 excited students from different high schools in the Inglewood area for a day of learning and inspiration in the electrical trade. The event gave students a special chance to explore careers with IBEW Local 11 and learn how to join the union.

The day started with a tasty lunch provided by the LMCC. After lunch, Training Director David Nott gave an interesting talk about electrical training. He explained the many opportunities and ways to grow in the industry.

Students then took a tour of the modern electrical training facility. They got to see the tools, technology, and techniques used in the electrical trade. This hands-on experience helped students imagine themselves working in these jobs and understand what skills they would need.

One of the best parts of the day was the mentorship session with four IBEW Local 11 members. The students were split into groups of 15, so they could have personal and meaningful talks with the mentors. The mentors shared their stories, gave advice, and explained what it’s like to work in the electrical trade. Their experiences inspired many students and gave them a better idea of what a career in this field could look like.

The event ended with a fun Q&A session, where students asked questions about the trade, the union, and how to become an electrician. To wrap up the day, each student got a hat as a souvenir, leaving them with both new knowledge and a cool reminder of the day.

The Clippers Outreach Event sparked interest and excitement for the electrical trade among Inglewood’s students, helping to build the next generation of skilled electricians and union members. Events like this are important for connecting the community with the trades and making sure the future is bright for everyone involved.
