Boot Camp FAQs

Once you complete your Aptitude Test, you've finished all steps of the application. Your Personal Experience Form and Letters of Recommendation wil be reviewed for legitimacy and accuracy. Your total score will be calculated using:

  • Aptitude Test (50%)
  • Personal Experience Form (40%)
  • Letters of Recommendation (10%)

This score places you on our Pool of Eligibles (POE) list - a ranked waitlist of applicants.

There is no fixed timeline. Some applicants are called within months; others may wait longer. The POE list is dynamic, meaning your rank can shift as new applicants are added with higher scores.

When our industry needs more apprentices, we begin a new boot camp cycle and contact the next group on the list.

Not unless it's been over two years since you were added to the POE list. If you remain on the list for more than two years without being selected, your name will be removed and you will need to reapply from the beginning, including re-taking the Aptitude test.

Boot camps are scheduled based on job demand, not a preset calendar. You may receive short notice (sometimes just a few days) before the start date. We'll provide all the info you need at that time.

If you're called for boot camp and answer the phone, you may be expected to respond right away. If we leave a voicemail, we'll give a short window of time to reply - but there is no guaranteed grace period. Because boot camp spots are limited and time-sensitive, delays in responding may result in your place being offered to the next person on the list. Make sure your contact info is up to date and check it regularly so you don't miss your opportunity.

No. Boot camp is completely free for accepted applicants - you will not be charged, and you will not owe anything. The full value of the program is $2,404.53, and the cost is fully covered by the Los Angeles Electrical Training Institute.

There are no fees, no tuition, and no hidden costs.

We strongly advise against it. Boot camp is a full-time, weekday commitment. Trying to work another job during this time can put you at risk of:

  • Fatigue that impacts your ability to keep up or complete the program
  • Safety hazards, especially while commuting or working long hours
  • Being dropped due to missed days, poor focus, or falling behind in class

We recommend that you plan ahead financially so you can fully focus on completing the program.

All boot camps take place at the Electrical Training Institute in Commerce, CA. Directions and additional info will be given to selected participants.

Boot camp includes:

  • Hands-on electrical training
  • Classroom instruction
  • Industry-standard safety practices
  • Structure, discipline, and preparation for life as an apprentice
  • An introduction to the IBEW and NECA partnership, including how the trade is structured and the role of each organization
  • A review of apprentice expectations, policies, and contracts - including the IBEW Constitution, Inside Wiremen's Agreement, and Local Union Bylaws

This is your final preparation step before entering the apprenticeship.

Yes. Boot camp is the final step to becoming an apprentice. Completing it successfully results in you signing your apprenticeship contract and officially entering the program.

Yes - if you successfully complete boot camp. At the end, you'll sign your indenture papers and begin your apprenticeship through the Los Angeles Electrical Training Institute.

Yes. If you're called into boot camp, you'll be required to take both a hair follicle and urinalysis drug test that meet federal standards. Anything considered federally illicit will result in a failed test.

You must have at least 1 inch of hair for proper sampling. If you fail the drug test, you will be dropped and required to wait six months before reapplying.

Please contact us immediately if your phone number, email, or address changes.
